アメリカのノースカロライナ州立大学のProf. Michael Roeから、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校（University of California at San Diego）のDr. Simone Tosiという人からのメールと質問事項が転送されてきました。千葉大学時代の私の研究室で卒論と修論の研究をした岩佐孝男君（現在、日本曹達株式会社勤務）が、今から15年ぐらい前に会社から派遣されてRoe教授の研究室に留学していた時に取り組んだネオニコチノイド剤とミツバチに関する研究についての質問でした。彼は当時、5報の論文原稿を書いてRoe教授に渡して帰国しましたが、その中の1報だけが2004年にイギリスの学術誌 Crop Protection 23(2004):371-378 に掲載されただけで、残りはいろいろな事情があっていまだに投稿されないままになっています。

この論文はネオニコチノイド剤間のミツバチに対する選択毒性の機構を解明した研究で私も共著者の一人になっていますが、世界的に高く評価された仕事です。質問は未発表の分に関するものでしたので、以下の返信をしておきました。ちなみに質問者のDr. Simone Tosiという人はどんな人かと思ってネットで検索したら、

The top author of the 2004 paper you reffered to, Mr. Takao Iwasa, obtained his BS and MS degree under my supervision at Chiba University, Japan. I retired from the university eight years ago and Takao is working at a pesticide company called Nippon Soda Co., LTD.
When the company sent him to Dr. Roe's lab at NCSU for his research training and oversea's experience, he workd very hard and wrote five manuscripts before he left the lab, out of which one was published (the 2004 paper) and the other two were revised for publication, but unfortunately they were not submitted for publication and still remain unpublished for a few reasons. Since I believe there is no more reason not to publish the remaining four manuscripts, I will contact Takao, discuss about the issue, and encourage him to publish the work he did on neonicotinoids and bees at NCSU.
